Part 13

It was time to drive back to Copenhagen in preparation for leaving the next morning.  To our delight, we found that there was a Henry Heerup Museum in a suburb just west of downtown.  The town is called RODOVRE and the museum is near where Heerup had his garden/studio.  Just a twenty minute bike ride from his apartment, we were told.

The museum was not large, but very charming.  Of course, having the floors covered with kids studying the Art helps.

Here are just a few by Henry Heerup:

Kaerligheds karrusellen by Henry Heerup, 1973
Arstiderne by Henry Heerup, 1980
Mand, kvinde og tempel by Henry Heerup, 1954
Hyrdetime by Henry Heerup, 1970

And, of course, one piece of "junk" art:

They even have Henry's old bike:

They do whole exhibitions just on his bicycles.  CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE HEERUP.

Now it was time to visit Henry's final resting place.  A place he grew up next to in Nørreport.  But first, a little Kunst:

It's just a fifteen minute drive to Assistens Cemetery.  This is the most famous in Copenhagen being the gravesite of the famous physicist Niels Bohr and Henry Heerup's hero, Hans Christian Anderson.

There was a light rain as we searched the old (1760) cemetery.

We found it like a beacon in the gloom.

Marion was his wife.

That about wraps up our Art Tour of Denmark.  A remarkable adventure.  We could probably go back for another two weeks and not go to any of the same places!  There is that much Art in Denmark.

But here's a few shots from our last afternoon:

The End.
