Part 12

It was a forty minute drive to ODENSE, which got us to our first museum almost exactly at 10. Only problem was, the museum wasn’t there. We did find a good-size sculpture park on the grounds surrounding an old castle. It was now occupied by an architect, as all of the surrounding buildings were for various business purposes.  I could find out little else about the park.  But there were some nice pieces:

There used to be an Art museum there, but closed years ago. The sculpture park is maintained by the commune. I got this information at the Gaesteatelier Hollufgaard which is in several buildings and focuses on residencies. There was a small exhibit of work by Susanne Thea, who is doing work based on the Bayeaux Tapestry, which she has not yet seen.

Then we drove into Odense and the Funen Museum of Art.   We were delighted to discovered that there was an exhibition celebrating Anna Marie Carl-Nielsen’s 150th birthday.  We were planning to stop in at the Carl Nielsen Museum to see some of her work, but this was better.

The work at The Funen was wonderful and we really got a feel for what she was doing.  And the rest of the permanent collection was wonderful, as well. A minimum of Golden Age, there was a room filled with quality paintings by relevant Danish painters of the modern period.

As we explored Odense, we discovered Art everywhere: pedestrian zones, parks, even in the median between driving lanes.
